Thanksgiving

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; His love endures forever (Psalm 106:1).  Each year as a nation, we pause to give thanks to the God who is always with us and whose love never fails.  Not an unknown God, but the one true God who is always good.  So good is he that it is difficult to believe how steeped we are in ingratitude.

Be grateful and don’t forget to tell God.  Think of his goodness even when things are not going as we would like.  Simple things like, instead of bemoaning the things that you do not have, give thanks for what you do have.   We may not have a million dollars but we have some dollars.  We may not have the best life but we are alive.  As long as there is life and breath, the chance for the best always looms.

One of the scriptures that informs my thankfulness is found in Deuteronomy 6:10-11.  My paraphrase from the Message Bible:  When God ushers you into your promise…you’re going to walk into large bustling cities you didn’t build, well furnished houses you didn’t buy, come upon wells you didn’t dig, vineyards and olive orchards you didn’t plant.  When you take it all in and settle down, pleased and content, make sure you don’t forget how you got there–God brought you….

Always give thanks.  Believe it or not, it does make room for more.
