The American Legacy Brand Celebrates 20 Years Educating America in 2015!

RJR Communications announced today that 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the American Legacy Brand. Launched in 1995 American Legacy Magazine celebrates African-American history & culture. Since that time numerous ancillary products have been developed including a board game, black history curriculum guide, mobile truck exhibit, television program and a children’s magazine (American Legacy, Jr.).  In addition, the magazine published three supplements, American Legacy Woman, Healthcare Advantage and Trailblazers.

In making the announcement Rodney J. Reynolds CEO of RJR Communications stated “We are very excited to reach this milestone given today’s media landscape and we look forward to the future as we prepare for the launch of American LegacyXL in 2015.”  American LegacyXL is a digital platform that will allow subscribers to experience African-American history and culture on a daily basis. Subscribers will have access to African-American historical movies, American Legacy TV programs, American Legacy’s digital archives and E-newsletter.

American Legacy Magazine was founded in 1995 as a joint venture between Reynolds’ RJR Communications, Inc and Forbes Magazine. RJR Communications assumed full ownership of the magazine and all related assets of the joint venture in January 2009. Total readership of American Legacy was over 2 million when the print edition went on hiatus in 2011. The company launched an E-Newsletter in April 2013 and its mobile truck exhibit has continued to visit school districts, African-American festivals and colleges and universities across the country since 2008. In addition, the company sells black history curriculum products to the K-12 school market.
