The Supreme Pontiff and Servant of the Servants of God of notably the largest megachurch in all of Christendom is aptly called the ‘people’s pope.’ His recent visit to Cuba and now to the United States models for all religious leaders what it truly means to be an undershepherd of the Christ.

Those closest to him in the US point out that this visit is not political as some would imagine but pastoral. Of course there are some political overtones but notices that the issues that are being made political have to do with the concerns of his parishioners.  Immigration, climate change and world unity concerns all people of good will.

What we see is  love that is visibly manifest as the pontiff moves among his people.  All are respected and blessed irrespective of age or race.  There is no aloofness or sense of prideful arrogance but rather a spirit of humility and belonging.  The Holy Father makes it clear that we are brothers and sisters of the same Lord.  We are servants of the same God.  Our mission is to help to restore and reconcile the world to its creator. Even those of us who are non Catholics must applaud and be inspired by this messenger of God.
