Reel Urban News Exclusive

Still celebrating the enormous success of “Everyday Jesus” award-winning gospel recording artist, Anthony Brown recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Reel Urban News while performing in Los Angeles, California.

Brown, who was raised in the church admits touring and performing is critical to his success. “Touring is everything. It allows me to connect with the audience. I can sit at the piano and on any given night sing from my heart and let the audience connect with my heart. I love it most because it’s as real and raw as you can get as an artist.”

At the 31st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards Brown his music ensemble, Group Therapy made history, winning awards for every category they were nominated in. At the close of the evening and Brown walked away with ten Stellar Awards.

Although hugely successful and popular, Brown, sitting at the keys of a baby grand piano and speaking with our Michael Reel, reveals the road has not always been easy. “It’s taken me a long time to get to this point in my own life. I’m just a firm believer that the things that I love about myself and the things that I don’t love about myself – God has every intent to use all of it.”

Brown, who is an accomplished songwriter finds days that are difficult and challenging for him personally turn out to be the best days to write award winning music. “A tough day is the greatest canvas to the greatest songs. I would sulk days that weren’t pleasant for me. But now whenever I’m having a moment or a day that’s not pleasant, I’m always looking for a piano, a place to funnel my creativity.”

Anthony closed our interview with a heartfelt rendition of R&B’s John Legend’s Ordinary People.

“That’s my truth. We’re just ordinary people, we don’t know what we’re doing. We’re all out here trying to figure it out. I think I’ve found one piece of something that helps me figure it out. And that’s my Everyday Jesus.”
