Something for Sunday: Happy Easter
The resurrection of Christ signaled the completion of our liberation. He whom the Son sets free is free indeed. We are liberated to be ourselves in the midst of our mess. We are liberated to think freely in spite of the attempts by others to control our thinking. We are liberated to hope in the unseen in a world that demands ‘hands on.’
Why all this talk of liberation on High Holy Day? We are facing oppression on every hand today. The oppression brought about by a shrinking world. Silicon Valley has done a marvelous job of providing technological advances but it has failed miserably at protecting those of us who are forced to participate in its progress. We opt out as long as we can but then our hands are tied and the oppression begins. Some form of liberation is needed. While we are forced to do, we need the freedom to live our lives. This freedom is provided by the liberating Christ at Calvary and beyond. We can walk in our own purpose and make our oppressors tools of our freedom. We can be over comers and do all things through Christ who gives us strength by example.
Christ is risen and death has no dominion over him. Hallelujah!
On a personal level, I thank God for his unspeakable gift. I have been liberated to be. Liberated from a life of sin and death to abundant living and eternal life. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
