Dr. Keith L. Black, Chairman, Department of Neurosurgery, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, recently sat down with ReelUrbanNews.com to discuss the effects of Alzheimer’s on the nation’s healthcare system, our aging population, and the African American community. “Alzheimer’s, if we don’t solve the problem, it will be the most significant healthcare problem we’re going to face over the next two or three decades. And without a solution it’s going to bankrupt the healthcare system and it will likely bankrupt our economy.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, African Americans are at a higher risk for Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Black, speaking with our Michael Reel, confirms the Alzheimer’s Association findings. “The rate of Alzheimer’s disease in the African American population is about twice the rate non African American population, and that is devastating. If I tell you that 47 percent of 85-year olds or older will have Alzheimer’s disease, that rate is twice that in the African American population.”
