I can only speak for my individual experience as an African-American in this extremely adverse economy, I would hope that this blog acts as an encouragement to all members of the human race who find themselves at present or in the future, looking for work.

I have employed five techniques to stay positive in this adverse economy and I hope that it inspires others to not give up or not give in.

First and foremost, I have strong faith in God through Jesus Christ. I could not have persevered this far without prayer and petition to Christ and dependence on Him and the Christian fellowship from various churches in the New York area.

Second, I make it a priority to continue to grow mentally. I read psychology magazines, spiritual blogs and websites, books on how to help myself by helping others and professional journals, etc.

Third, I stay active physically. I take brisk walks every day, I exercise at home and occasionally at a gym, I bike ride with friends and take the long way home or to work to lengthen the trip as to increase my physical activity.

Fourth, I take a genuine interest and concern in other people. I volunteer at a church I attend, teaching in the children’s ministry, I babysit for free once a month and I go to a local nursing home once a week visiting residents there.

Finally, I make time for leisure activity outside of the house. I love going to the New York Botanical Gardens, The Bronx Zoo, local parks and beaches and free and discount movies. I believe that these five actions have allowed me to grow and contribute to others, helping me to become more outward focused and people centered during this adverse time. I believe that I still have a lot to learn and grow in these areas specifically, and in my character in general, but I thank God for the adversity. It is during adversity that one grows so that when prosperity comes, one who has grown will be wise in how to disperse that which they have gained.

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to express my experience during this time in my life and I hope it helps those who read it. Again, thank you.
