“Michael Brown is very much responsible for his own death, sad to say. Michael Brown very much contributed to his own death by the choices that he made.” Carl Douglas, Attorney

In our exclusive interview with famed Civil Rights Attorney, Carl Douglas, we asked: Was the Fergurson Grand Jury a waste of time?

“It was a necessary part of the process. It was very important for all people I think for there to be this examination. Unfortunately, when I heard all of the facts of what the Grand Jury was given, of their testimony, it is sad but I can understand why they (The Grand Jury) reached this decision. I can understand why there is a reason to believe that Darren Wilson acted out of self-defense. I question was his conduct reasonable. But I can understand why the Grand Jury concluded that it was not criminal.”

Douglas, who first appeared on our Michael Brown Justice Panel predicted that Officer Darren Wilson would not be indicted in the death of Mr. Brown. “He was reaching inside the car when he (Michael Brown) got shot. He turns and then walks away, for some reason he stops and turns back towards the cop. In America all most every where, when Brown stops and turns back towards the cop he is going to get shot. And it’s going to be justified.”

Douglas provides analysis of the actual shooting of Michael Brown. “The 10 shots sound or seem excessive, and I can understand why there is outrage Wilson wasn’t charged. But by the same token it reflects how scared Darren Wilson was. People don’t understand that a shooting is really a wild affair. It’s not cold and calculating. It’s boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom! Wilson had a semi-automatic weapon. It takes little pressure for there to be 1 or 10 shots fired in a matter of 2 or 3 seconds.”
