As the Pan African Film Festival celebrates their 19th year, Ayuko Babu, executive director of the famed film festival sat down with ReelUrbanNews.com for an engaging exclusive interview about the festival and the future of Black and independent film makers.  “The market for Black stories is Black people. You take the billion folks in Africa and at least 200 million go to the movies.  What we do in the Pan African Film Festival is that we try to pick films that speak to us, that entertain us, that bring some wisdom to us and that enrich our lives.” Ayuko Babu, Pan African Film Festival

Babu shared ReelUrbanNews.com one festival attendees’ reasoning for attending the Pan African Film Festival. “This one brother been coming to our festival since 1992, he’s a dentist who sees about 25 films. He say ‘listen brother, I don’t go see any movies except when the Pan African Film Festival comes to town. I don’t want to see no more White folks. I’ve seen them fall in love, I’ve seen them fight Indians, I’ve seen them climb on top of mountains and I’ve seen them go into space. I’m not interested.  I want to see what we’re doing.’” Ayuko Babu, Pan African Film Festival
