Reel Urban Politics:

As promised, we are in the strong Blue-hold state of California. Cynthia Shaffer, Political Editor for Reel Urban News, asked several self-identified Republicans: What do Republicans mean when they say, “We’re going to take our country back.” Erieka Paige-Dangeau (https://www.reelurbannews.com/erieka-paige-dangeau-taking-our-country-back/) addressed the economics and Terry Schroeder (https://www.reelurbannews.com/political-series-were-going-to-take-our-country-back-the-role-of-government/) addressed the role of government.

Meet Brian Burleson. He’s all about the First Amendment: Freedom of Speech.

Third Response:

Brian Burleson was born in San Francisco, CA, and has lived on the Central Coast since 1987, after serving six years on active duty with the Army.
Brian Burleson was born in San Francisco, CA, and has lived on the Central Coast since 1987, after serving six years on active duty with the Army.

When Shaffer asked Brian Burleson if he’d be willing to answer the question for print he immediately said, “yes” and then a little while later wrote, “I’m working on the piece on what, ‘taking the country back’ means. It’s more difficult than I thought.” Shaffer responded, “Take your time.”

Burleson’s eventual submission doesn’t mince words. “Taking  the country back. I can only speak for myself about what ‘taking the country back’ means.  In short, I’d like America to go back to the way it was in the 50’s, without the segregation of course. I want to go back to the time where a person could express their opinion without being called “extremist” or having their opinion called “hate speech”. Back to a time where not even a Democrat would support homosexual “marriage”. A time where anyone who proposed a plastic bag ban would be laughed at and if he were an elected official, he would never be elected again (except in California). There are way too many people taking a government handout of some kind or another. I want that to end. Amnesty for illegal aliens (yes, ALIENS https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1101)? Ridiculous, and even more ridiculous, giving illegal aliens a driver’s license.”

Brian, as evidenced in his response, is no fan of political correctness. As if almost anticipating how some will take his opinions, he provided some personal context that shows there is an honesty about him that cuts both ways. He speaks his mind about politics, but he is also able to give reasoning as to why to believes what he believes. One may not agree with him, but at least he’s willing to engage in discourse (https://www.reelurbannews.com/let-us-reason-together-a-political-commentary/), which is sorely missing in today’s hyper-social-media world.

Here is his literal “P.s.” to Cynthia:

“A few words on liberalism.

One of the times I’m most ashamed of was back in the first grade. I stole toys from my classmates. I felt I deserved cool toys as much as they did and it wasn’t “fair” their parents would buy them cool toys and mine didn’t.  Of course my parents did buy me toys, but the other kid’s toys always looked better. Often, I didn’t even keep the toys and just threw them away. I felt if I couldn’t have them, they shouldn’t be able to either.

Take your average liberal (take them far, far away please).  They think it’s “unfair” that the “rich” (i.e., anyone that makes 200 bucks more a year than they do) can afford better “toys” than they own. If your average liberal thought they could get away with it, they would steal the “toys” from the rich like I used to do in the first grade. Being as they fear punishment, they instead demand government steal from the rich on their behalf.  Only the most simple-minded of liberals believe the money taken from the rich will go into their [the liberals’] bank accounts. They believe, like I did back in the first grade that if they can’t have it, the rich shouldn’t either.

I grew out of that mindset almost 50 years ago. Your average liberal hasn’t.”

p.s. Just in case you’re wondering…no, he does not support Donald Trump.

While Burleson does not support Mr. Trump for President, our next Republican spotlight will be on Robert Empasis who is a Trump supporter. Mr. Empasis addresses the accusation of Mr. Trump being a racist; however, it is through the eyes of Empasis being a Filipino American. In the “Political Series: We’re Going to Take Our Country Back!”, he also delves into his concern about America’s national interests, military, and foreign policy.
