Prairie View A&M University has been closely monitoring news reports regarding the tragic death of our alumna, Sandra Bland. Throughout the past few days, the University has been actively engaged in supplying media outlets with correct information regarding Ms. Bland’s time on campus.
The safety and welfare of our students, faculty and staff is a priority. Although this particular incident did not take place on university property, the proximity is still cause for alarm. We, along with other concerned community members, are awaiting the results of the investigation currently underway. Only when we know and understand the facts surrounding Ms. Bland’s untimely death, can we begin the healing process.
I recognize that people are extremely passionate about seeking justice for Ms. Bland. We encourage peaceful expressions and honest, respectful dialogue while we await the details surrounding the investigation. The loss of a family member is never easy any I want to extend my thoughts and prayers to the family of Ms. Bland.
