Ladies and Gentlemen…Leeeeet’s get reaaaaaadyyyyyy to rrrrummmble!!!

In this corner wearing the blue micro polka dotted tie is President Obama, college professor, current defender of The Theory We Learned In College.

And in this corner wearing the red striped tie is Governor Romney, business man, current champion of The Reality That Set In When We Left College.

Theory Vs. Reality…gentlemen, let’s have a good fight.

And indeed it was. Both men rattled off numbers and studies to support their positions and both even managed to pull in heart-tugging anecdotal stories to humanize why they believe what they believe. But haven’t they already been doing this since the election season began…a lot…again and again? So much so haven’t most people already decided for whom they are going to vote? We’re just cheerleading for our guy, right? Soooooo…in this information age with data at our every turn and 24/7 media, what exactly is the purpose of the debates? It ain’t really about the issues…it’s really about the man. Even in this age of the world being smaller because communication is so instant, we still want to meet the man, shake his hand, and look him in the eye. We want to have a chance to satisfy our desire to feel out the intangibles of character, respect, and belief. We want to our hearts and mind to be in agreement with the man we choose be President of this unique Democratic Republic nation.

Tonight, people had a chance to marry up their hearts and minds.

President Obama was a reminder of when we were young and idealistic. A reminder of how we sat in the classroom and learned about the theories and case studies of our respective discipline. A reminder of how we envisioned life to be before we actually had to get out on our own and earn our keep. We were indestructible and life was grand, until we graduated and realized theory doesn’t always translate to reality. His favorite word is “fair” and life ain’t fair. He’s a professor flying by the seat of his theorized pants.

Governor Romney? Well, he’s a reminder of when we woke up from our college la-la land and realized life and ideals don’t always mesh. A reminder of a seasoned man with real-life experience who’s had plenty of time to reconcile theory and reality. More than a reminder of a man ready to negotiate a win-win deal. A man who knows we are human and life is grand when we take care of each other by choice, not by force. His favorite words are “common ground” and even a die-hard liberal can appreciate that sentiment. He’s a business man soaring the heights of a culminated career.

Tonight, the spectators, we voters, were making up our hearts and minds. The Governor had the President on the ropes, but the final round isn’t until November 6. Whether by points or KO, a win is a win. May the best man win.

  1. Let me start by saying i enoy reading your blogs.Well, Cyn, I’ve said it before, and I’m gonna say it again… you don’t let a community organizing lawyer debate a business man on economy. The business man says, “how can I fix this?” The lawyer says, “how can I legally get a round this?” Obama was on the defensive stance throughout the debate. You had mainstream media saying he looked lethargic, not on his a-game, was disappointed in his inability to get the upper hand. If you ask me, if obama ever needed a teleprompter, it was last night. Obama looked like a beat dog afterwards. You also could see the disappointment in Michelle’s face. I can’t wait for Paul Ryan annd Joe “crazy lips” biden’s debate.
