On June 15th the new action-packed drama SISTERS by Director Jahmar Hill will premiere on the BET+, Black Entertainment Television’s premium streaming service. SISTERS is Hill’s first film to stream on the Black-centric platform.

“I’m super-excited for the world to finally get to see this film. Just to be able to say that I finally found a home for the project is a dream come true.”

Hill, 34, is already a seasoned writer, producer and director. SISTERS is the fourth cinematic feature written and directed by Hill.

Hill, an Elizabeth, NJ native, recently sat down for an in-depth and wide-ranging conversation about SISTERS’ all-star cast and his continued success in Hollywood.

“I knew SISTERS would be super-huge. I knew once I finally got it complete the movie would take off and people would be super-excited to see this film.”  Jahmar Hill, Writer and Director “SISTERS – Photo Credit: Reggie Simon/Reel Urban Images

“SISTERS is probably the hardest film I worked to get accomplished,” said Hill. “I went to shoot this film back in 2019; had a nice crew and cast but it wasn’t the right time. Tried it again in 2020 and the pandemic shut us down. In 2021 the pandemic shut us down again. I took a break.”

Because of these setbacks, SISTERS was placed on hold. “But 2023 proved to be the right time.”

Several of Hill’s earlier films, LAST LOVE LOST, FOURTH QUARTER, and RUN are currently streaming on TUBI and Amazon Prime.

Hill explained that there was something different about SISTERS that drove him. “I knew SISTERS would be super-huge. I knew once I finally got it complete the movie would take off and people would be super-excited to see this film.”

Because Hill was confident SISTERS represented next-level filmmaking, he fought hard to find a platform for the film that was a reflection of his grind and perseverance.

“In 2021 I premiered my movie RUN and a couple of days later I got a call inquiring about distribution for the film. The conversation grew and then I was asked, ‘What did I have next?’

What followed, says Hill, must be a filmmaker’s dream.

“I sent them the pitch trailer for SISTERS and the distribution company expressed interest in the film. ‘We like this—how much do you need?’”

Hill admittedly is a believer in the adage; “It’s all about who you know and who knows you.”

“If I didn’t do my previous projects and they didn’t have the success that they have then nobody would know who Jahmar Hill is. That is part of your journey that makes you viable and valuable to a media company like BET.”

The film’s all-star cast, says Hill, brings SISTERS to life. “It stars Columbus Short, K.D. Aubert, Lil Mama, De’Aundre Bonds, Tobias Truvillion, Coco Brown and a super-fantastic up-and-coming artist, Ciera Angelia. This cast is amazing.”

Hill arrived in Hollywood in 2016 and has never looked back. Having survived the COVID shutdown of Hollywood and many other challenges, the one-time Warner Brothers and Sony Studios security guard never lost his focus. Speaking exclusively with Michael Reel of Reel Urban News, Jahmar Hill ended our interview with his guiding principle.

“I’m a humble dude. I always remember where I come from.”
