Something For Sunday

To say, that March 2020 through March 2021 has been a difficult period of life for us all is indeed an understatement, even for the people of God. COVID-19 has taken its toll on our living.  We have said in previous blogs that we will have to face the reality that we will never be the same again.  While some view that possibility as negative, it can be more positive than we dare imagine.  We will have to face ourselves which may be very devastating.

But for those of us, who call ourselves by the name Christ, we can affirm that behind every dark cloud, Jesus is shining.  Our hope of glory is shining. The promises of the prophet are being strengthened.

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. (Is. 9:2)But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. (Is. 53:5)

We all know that the children of Israel held out hope for a Messiah.  We affirm that the desire of that nation was fulfilled in Jesus.  For all of us, the hope and fears of all our years were met in the Bethlehem babe, Jesus Christ the Lord.  We further affirm that Jesus still shines.

“We have hope when things are not as well with us as we would like. We do not fret or succumb to troubles in our way.  Despair does not drown us.  We make no deals with Satan.” Rev. Gerald Adams

Easter comes to remind us again of the greatness of the fulfilled promise.  He truly suffered on Good Friday, but not for himself, he suffered for the sins of a world that is still sinning.  He suffered for nations that are still unrepentant and a country which would rush to return to business as usual. Even, the poorest of us who are greed driven.

We have hope when things are not as well with us as we would like. We do not fret or succumb to troubles in our way.  Despair does not drown us.  We make no deals with Satan.  We trust in Him whose mercy does not allow us to be consumed by the world order but is new every morning.  New mercy for each new day because of God’s faithfulness and because of Calvary.

“My hope is built on nothing less that Jesus’ blood and His righteousness.”

Lest I get too carried away, I sing loudly: “My hope is built on nothing less that Jesus’ blood and His righteousness.”  I wholly lean on Him. Shining, Jesus the hope of glory.  He is shining in my soul.

And if you need a word, feast on this: His followers were at His tomb early this morning and came back with an amazing report…Jesus is alive! (Luke 24:22-23 TLB)
