Something For Sunday

The gospel music community of Memphis, Tennessee recently joined with the family and friends of native son, James O. Pope, Jr. to celebrate his four plus decades of distinguished musicianship and community leadership. “Pope,” which he is affectionately called remains a sought after church organist and gospel choir director in the city that is home to Beale Street and through out the Southern region of the country.

Through out James O. Pope Jr’s celebrated career, he has been able to play and record with several award-winning gospel artist.
A multi-talented musician James O. Pope,Jr. natural talents allow him to play a wide range of gospel and classical music.

In addition to choir members, musicians, family and friends paying tribute to “Pope,” several Memphis area pastors expressed their heartfelt gratitude to this exceptional church musician, not only for wonderful talent but for his remarkable spirit and humanity.

Rev. Dr. Frank E. Ray, Sr. Pastor of New Salem Baptist Church shared glowing remarks about the musicianship and professionalism of James O. Pope, Jr.

Raised in the loving home of the late Rev. James O. Pope, Sr. and Joyce Fields Pope, James and his siblings were taught Christian values and the gift of giving. The Pope home was steeped in gospel music.

The celebration was lifted and anointed. Attendees enjoyed great gospel music while the love of Christ filled the air.
