On-set Exclusive with the Star, Director and Producer of #WhereIsBeauty

Reel Urban News recently spoke with the director, star and producer of the new short film, #WhereIsBeauty.

According to first-time filmmaker Angela McCrae, #WhereIsBeauty targets multi-cultural millennial women grappling with issues of self-identity, the definition of beauty and the pressure of society’s standards. “When I was first given the script I connected with it immediately,” says McCrae. “I felt like it was a great opportunity to reach millennial women.” Angela McCrae, Director, #WhereIsBeauty

While relaxing between takes in a downtown Los Angeles artist space, Goapele recalls how the starring role of “Nina” grabbed  her attention. “As soon as I saw the storyline and the idea behind “#WhereIsBeauty, the transformation and what is our identity and how we look at ourselves as women, I was already sold.”

“I can relate to what the main character, Nina, is going through,” says Goapele, who has been challenged by her own personal and professional insecurities.  “I know what it’s like exposing yourself. And asking, what you are letting go of and what are you letting into your life. I’ve had to go through that so many times. It’s scary and yet empowering.” Goapele, Star of #WhereIsBeauty

Angela White is well known in Hollywood circles as a veteran entertainment producer with more than two dozen films to her credit. In a celebrated and diverse career, White has helmed award-winning films with Overflow Entertainment, such as The Sin Seer, My Favorite Five, My Sister’s Wedding, The Last Letter and Who Can I Run To. Her latest effort is the eagerly anticipated self-discovery film #WhereIsBeauty.

“This is the first time I’ve worked with an all-woman crew,” White tells Reel Urban News. “I’ve never worked with a female director of photography, a female gaffer, a female first assistant camera and a female first assistant director.
