Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – It’s an uphill steep climb for Republican Presidential Nominee, Mitt Romney, as he tries to sway the Latino vote. Last night during “Meet The Candidates” forum hosted by Univision at the University of Miami, marked a chance for Romney take a milder tone after the remarks said during a close fundraising meeting back in May.

“This is a campaign about the 100 percent,” he said last night. This In the wake of the video that showed Romney speaking dismissively of the 47 percent of people that view themselves, according to Romney, “As victims,” and dependent on the government.

He also acknowledges the impotence of Latino vote during that same secretly recorded conversation.

“We’re having a much harder time with Hispanic voters, and if the Hispanic voting bloc becomes as committed to the Democrats as the African American voting bloc has in the past.” Romney said, “why, we’re in trouble as a party, and I think, as a nation.”

Latinos are the fastest growing minority, 50 million and counting. It is also the group with the youngest population in the country making it key for the economy. 23 million of Latinos are eligible to vote according to impreMedia and Latino Decisions poll released on Monday. President Barak Obama leads with 68 percent of Latino voters while Romney has the support of 26 percent. Last presidential race, Republican nominee John McCain had the support of 31 percent of Latino vote, a significant gap from Romney.

Latino voters are concerned with immigration, health and education but more overly concerned with the economy and unemployment. It’s really no surprise when 10.2 percent of Latinos are unemployed, this is higher than over the entire nation’s rate and while it’s the group that contributes about 1,000 millions to the economy, this according to impreMedia.com.

On Monday, Romney addressed the 33rd Annual National Convention of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) and pledge to help small businesses grow as well as pursue “Permanent Immigration Form.”

“What we got instead is a world where hope has painful limits – limits that make it harder to start a business, to grow a business, or to find job.”

Latinos paly a major key role in these upcoming presidential elections, just like they did last elections and will do so in future election to come.

Romney has 45 days to woo the Latino vote before Super Tuesday and the key states he might be able to do this is in Nevada, Colorado, North Carolina and Florida.

  1. Trying to woo Latinos? Why? If americans overlooked obama’s double talk to get their votes, American people deserve everything we vote for. Obama only passed the dream act to gain Latino votes. What Americans need is a president who will obey and follow the constitution, instead of a president who refuses to do so. So woo the Latino? If I were Latino, I’d be offended.
