Changing Our Narrative

The NFL: Entertainment, beer and brats. We all enjoy the game, gatherings and competition. However, what is the NFL saying to its fans? Shut up and watch the game? Society is faced with everyday issues of improper treatment of minorities – does the NFL care? They surely don’t show it.

Taking a Knee fighting Racial Injustice, Colin Kaepernick former NFL Quarter Back.

Colin Kaepernick represents what society needs and he has been blackballed from the game he grew up loving and working hard at. A very peaceful protest, at that. What is that teaching our youth? Be careful what you stand for? Or kneel for? Preaching integration while practicing segregation – the world hasn’t changed much besides its technology. “Land of the free, home of the brave.” However, if you’re brave enough to face the injustices and inequalities that have hindered any kind of peace and love amongst all people, you run the risk of ostracism, ridicule, and discrimination – even death threats. The NFL has the opportunity to help bridge the gap but they seem to be more interested in beer commercials and Super Bowl halftime performances. There are a lot of people of color under those helmets. Unfortunately, the urban community isn’t protected by pads and helmets. Instead we are on our knees without knee pads.
