People talk. A lot. Apparently, the latest societal crisis is the bad (even illegal) acts of teenagers who drink at house parties. Namely, one teenager named Brett Kavanaugh who has been accused by Christine Blasey Ford and now, Julie Swetnick, of sexual misconduct and gang rape, respectively.

House party with no parents + underage drinking…what could possibly go wrong? It seems the parties Christine and Swetnick attended were void of parents and the alcohol flowed freely. Fast-forward at least three decades and the now grown-up Christine and Swetnick want the world to know what Brett Kavanaugh did all those years ago. What they are leaving out and what people are not talking about at all are the following:

  1. Absence of parents
  2. Underage drinking
  3. Alcohol from parents

Namely, the ramifications of the parents creating a perfect environment for children to be hurt. If all this indeed happened, why aren’t the parents being held accountable all these years later?

In fact, the age old ritual of house parties with no parents + underage drinking/drugs/God knows what else continues to this very day. One doesn’t have to be a rocket scientist to know very bad things happen at those parties and very rarely is anyone held accountable, including the teenagers. Therefore, if one teenager is held to account, what about all the adults who condone this type of perfect storm for bad acts to occur? What about the party-goers who repeatedly put themselves in harms way?

What if, all those years ago, parents were at the party and there was no drinking?

Why isn’t society asking these kinds of questions? Parents who abdicate their responsibility is the fundamental reason we are talking about what teenagers did thirty years ago, instead of the adults.
